The Chamber is pleased to announce that registration for the 5th annual Bike Bedford County recreational bike rides are now open.  New in 2018, the Allegheny Ascent metric century ride will feature a visit to the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanskville in addition to the 5,000+ feet of climbing.

Additional rides area available for all skill and experience levels, from an intermediate metric century that includes 5 historic covered bridges, a metric half-century with rolling hills, also visiting multiple covered bridges, a 25-mile mostly-flat ride through the farmland near Shawnee State Park, and a fun family 5k around the park’s Lakeshore Trail.

Bike Bedford County started in 2014 as a way to showcase the recreational opportunities and natural beauty of Bedford County.  Hundreds of cyclists from more than 10 states have participated in the event through its first four years.

2018 marks the new most challenging ride route to give cyclists the opportunity to visit the Flight 93 National Memorial, with the final phase (bell tower) now under construction.  All of the rides feature scenic rural byways, rolling farmland, summertime flowers, wildlife and much more.

All of the rides (except for the free Lakeshore Family Quest) include with registration a commemorative souvenir glass, rest stops with refreshments/beverages, ride support (bike techs at the park, sag wagons) and a post-ride lunch (pizza, salad, fruit.)

The event is sponsored by REI, Structural Fiberglass Inc, Allegany College of Maryland and Reed, Wertz & Roadman.
