The Silver Lining Drive-In is the inspiring product of the cooperation among the business community of the Bedford County region. At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic (spring 2020), the Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Bedford County Fair and more than 20 local companies, spearheaded the construction of a 72′ x 40′ movie screen on the fairgrounds property in order to provide socially-distant activities for the community. Since the completion of the project, which took just 50 days, and was dedicated in time for the July 4th holiday, summertime Saturday night movies have provided affordable, family fun for citizens and visitors in Bedford County.
The facility, which can be used by more than 250 cars, has also been the site of outdoor concerts, local theater productions, educational, charitable and faith-based gatherings, and much more.
Classic family films are offered on most summer Saturdays (except for Bedford County Fair Weekends and other special events) with tickets just $5 for ages 19 and up. (Guests ages 18 and under are admitted free.)
Here’s the story of the Silver Lining Drive-In, told as part of the Chamber’s 2020 Awards Program, held at the Bedford County Fairgrounds. The construction team was presented with the President’s Award for their wonderful accomplishment and contribution to the community during.
