Movie Schedule Includes Family Favorites, FREE for All Guests Ages 18 and Younger

The Bedford County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Bedford County Fair, invites the community to the Silver Lining Drive-In for the 5th summer of movies at the Bedford County Fairgrounds.

The family-friendly films, scheduled for most Summer Saturdays (except for Bluegrass Festival and Fair weeks) begin with a blockbuster double-header Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Last Crusade (May 25th.)  Additional films include Grease,  Action/Adventure films Twister and Back to the Future; family favorites The Goonies, Wonka, Jumanji, and Bring it On, plus Robin Hood King of Thieves, Jingle in July feature How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and a Labor Day Weekend Caper Double-Feature of Oceans 11 and Oceans 8.

“We are so excited for our 5th summer of the drive-in movie series,” said Chamber President-CEO Kellie Goodman Shaffer.  “This year’s films earned hundreds of votes during our social media polling, and we are thrilled to welcome families from throughout the region for another year of drive-in fun. And we’re so grateful to our local business community for your support of this project and the ongoing series.  It truly would not be possible without you!”

The Silver Lining Drive-In began as a special project by the business community during the pandemic restrictions of 2020.  What started as a small idea for a temporary screen became a significant construction project, with 22 local businesses contributing time, talent, expertise and resources to building the 72′ wide x 55′ tall screen in just 50 days.  Another 40 businesses supported the first movie series as sponsors, providing the funding for license and projection fees, comfort services and other amenities.  Here’s a look at the story of the drive-in through the video made for the Chamber’s 2020 awards ceremony, held at the drive-in, and including the presentation of the Presidents Award to the companies who built the screen:

Each summer, the drive-in series has continued to provide affordable fun for local families.  In 2022, the Chamber and Fair lowered the prices to allow all guests ages 18 and under FREE ADMISSION, with admission for adults 19 and older just $5.  The prices have stayed the same, thanks to the continued support from corporate sponsors.  Prior to the 2024 season, the Chamber purchased a gently-used, 30,000 lumen projector and related equipment, ensuring the continuation of the movies for many years to come.  Special thanks to Knisely and Sons for the upgraded electric and projection house improvements, Bernard Fetter Excavating for digging the new trench for the electric lines, and New Millennium Communications for the installation of new sound equipment.  We celebrated a ribbon cutting for the upgrades May 13th:

And a special shout-out to our new friend Khris Sine from Fleo’s Flicks in Edgerton, Ohio, who assisted with installation and training of the projector.  We look forward to providing excellent picture and sound this summer, and a wonderful experience for all!

Concessions are available, including popcorn and boxed candy, glow sticks and t-shirts.  On select nights, food trucks are also on property.  Check the Silver Lining Drive-In Facebook page for weekly updates regarding weather impact, as well as special features such as food options, character visits, sponsor give-aways and more.
