Bedford County Chamber Plans 2nd Annual Holiday Nights of Lights Community Light Displays, Nights to Expand in 2020

The Bedford County Chamber of Commerce is excited to be planning the 2nd annual Holiday Nights of Lights: a grass roots, community-based, drive-through light display, opening Thanksgiving weekend at the Bedford County Fairgrounds.  Businesses, organizations, schools, churches and families are invited to create a display as part of this naturally socially distant celebration of the season.

“We can’t wait to see what local groups come up with in 2020,” said Chamber President-CEO, Kellie Goodman Shaffer. “Last year’s displays far exceeded our expectations, and we know this year will be even bigger and better.”

More than 70 light installations were created for the inaugural event in 2019, and the Chamber expects even more displays, more guests and thousands more lights this year, so additional dates have been added to the Holiday Nights schedule: November 27-30, and December 4-6, 11-13, 18-23, 26-27, weather permitting, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

“We know that under the circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, there will probably be some restrictions on holiday gatherings and events this year,” added Goodman Shaffer. “We hope that the Holiday Nights of Lights will provide something special for families to do together, and a way to create lasting memories in spite of all of the challenges of 2020.”

Those interested in building a light installation should contact the Chamber to reserve a space by calling 814-623-2233.  Corporate sponsorships, volunteer opportunities, and gift certificates for admission are also available.

Sponsors of the 2020 Holiday Nights of Lights to date include: ACM Bedford County Campus, Hometown Bank, Homewood at Spring House Estates/Victoria House, Interstate Emergency Services and UPMC Bedford, with thanks to Cessna Broadcasting for partnering with the Chamber for the radio broadcast of music and sponsor recognition on 1600AM, as guests enjoy the drive-through light displays from the safety of their vehicle. Admission is $10 per car; large transport vehicles (busses, etc. should contact the Chamber for more rate information.)
