Class Project - "It's Your Call"

Beginning in July 2009, Youth Leadership students participated in a Bedford County data review/strategic communications plan activity, analyzing the patterns of underage drinking and drinking and driving for both young people and among adults of legal age.

Students reviewed relevant data necessary for establishing the parameters of a social norms marketing campaign.  YLBC students developed a plan from this data and developed initial messages.  Students worked with a consultant who provided learning objectives and provided guidance on suggested campaign guidelines.

Session 1, held in July 2009, was a brainstorming session, to share data and sample messages with youth and get their feedback.  In December 2009, YLBC students created mock adverstisements and public service announcement storyboards of their choosing.  During Session 3 in March 2010, the drafts were presented and the YLBC students reviewed and suggested changes.  In addition, the YLBC students discussed the distribution plan.  In March 2010, YLBC students traveled to the Pennsylvania National Guard Base in Ft. Indianatown Gap, to produce their products in a professional recording and design studio.

YLBC students are pleased to present their final products including a project logo, poster designs, billboard designs, newspaper ads, radio public service announcements, web ads and YouTube public service announcements.  The students will continue to work with the Bedford county Drug and Alcohol Prevention Partnership and Personal Solutions Inc. staff to find free and paid media placement for creative materials to promote their work in the community.
