About Our Featured Speaker: Gene Barr is the president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business & Industry, the state’s largest broad-based business advocacy association. The organization’s mission is to articulate and advocate on public policy issues that will expand private sector job creation and lead to a more prosperous Pennsylvania for all its citizens. PA Chamber membership comprises close to 10,000 member businesses of all sizes and industry sectors throughout the state, from sole proprietors to Fortune 100 companies, representing nearly 50 percent of the private workforce in the Commonwealth. While business advocacy is at the heart of their work, the PA Chamber is not affiliated with any political party and is not part of government.
Mr. Barr has more than 40 years of experience in various facets of government, political and public affairs activity, as well as business operations. He worked for BP America (the U.S. subsidiary of British Petroleum) for more than 12 years; he also served as a local elected official in the Philadelphia area for almost 10 years. He has also served an appointment by Gov. Ed Rendell as a member of the Stimulus Oversight Commission; was also a member of Gov. Tom Corbett’s Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission; and currently serves as appointed Co-Chair of Gov. Tom Wolf’s Middle Class Task Force, seeking recommendations to support and grow the Commonwealth’s middle class through education, economic incentives and workforce training.
