One of the county’s most unique real estate properties will be featured during the Chamber’s June Business After Hours, as Juniata Realty hosts the monthly business mixer at the Old Bedford County Jail: Tuesday, June 18th, 5-7pm.

If bricks could talk, imagine the tales the ancient walls of the Bedford County Jail could tell, of a rural county’s history that never made it into textbooks.  The old jailhouse has graced the corner of Bedford’s West Penn Street for nearly 125 years.  A sense of mystery emanates from the elegant architecture and artisan craftsmanship in the living quarters, to the graffitied walls and peeling paint behind the wrought iron cell doors.  This remarkably well-preserved property offers more than 8,000 square feet of space on a lovely, oversized lot.  The property is for sale, and After Hours is a great opportunity to see it all.

“I think it would be a great themed restaurant, haunted lodging, bed and breakfast, boutique shopping property, brewery or winery, the possibilities are endless,” said Kim Mearkle, Juniata Realty Broker/Proprietor.

“We are excited to provide exposure to the jail so people know the opportunities for the property, and hopefully gain some interest in it, but also to celebrate the re-opening of our Bedford office in June.

Juniata Realty has been providing the expertise to help dreams become reality for more than 25 years, offering the internal structure to assist on either side of a real estate transaction, and, as an independent Realtor, the freedom to make on unique opportunities, both residential and commercial.  With brokerage credentials and agents licensed in both Pennsylvania and Maryland, the agency specializes in farms, acreage, vacation properties, cabins, and unique homes.  Their Bedford office will soon re-open at 332 W. Pitt Street.

Guests of Business After Hours will enjoy catered appetizers, spirited beverages, live music, valuable networking and tours of the historic jail property.  A photo booth and other surprises within the historic property will make this mixer a one-of-a-kind experience.

Cost to attend is $6 for registered Chamber Members or $10 at the door for walk-ins ($16 for not-yet  members.)  RSVP by calling the Chamber at 623-2233 or register online through the Chamber calendar.
