Bedford County’s signature celebration of spring, the Chamber is pleased to invite the community to the 22nd annual Home, Garden and Lifestyle Show, presented by Homewood at Spring House Estates: Saturday and Sunday, April 1st and 2nd at the Bedford County Fairgrounds.
A wonderful combination of tried-and-true standards and new features, the 2017 HGL Show will offer something for everyone.
Guests will be welcomed to the show by our presenting partner, Homewood at Spring House Estates, the region’s premier retirement community. Admission is FREE and guests can register for a free daily door prize drawing featuring projects from the Bedford County Technical Center’s Building Construction Program.
Zimmerman’s Ace Hardware, located in Everett, joins the show as a major sponsor. Under new ownership, Zimmerman’s continues the tradition of exceptional service and outstanding expertise. Throughout the show, guests will be treated to DIY (do it yourself) demonstrations, including a paint demo at 10:30am on Saturday; a grilling demo, including Big Green Egg and Traeger wood pellet grills at 1:30pm Saturday; and a staining demo at 2:30pm Sunday. A special drawing will also be offered out of the Ace Hardware double-booth display.
And that’s just the beginning of the home improvement help to be found at the HGL Show. Whether you’re looking to create a new outdoor living space, update your kitchen or bathroom, furnish your man cave, or almost any other project, the area’s experts will be under one roof, waiting to meet you. Doing business locally means supporting neighborhood businesses, keeping important dollars in our own community. Personalized customer service is another benefit of choosing local goods and services in a county where a handshake is still an important business tool, and where families proudly put their name and reputation on every job they do.
Indian Lake Marina returns as the show’s Lifestyle Sponsor, with an outdoor Boat Show and indoor booth display. It’s a great chance to consider life on the Lake, with summer just around the corner.
Thanks to Entertainment sponsor, Matt Randall State Farm, live music by Revised Edition (Saturday) and The Sharp Tones (Sunday) will provide the soundtrack for the weekend’s activities.
In addition to dozens of indoor exhibits, with an array of home improvement help, Jordan Hall will be bursting with outdoor displays as well, including the West Central Equipment John Deere Show, Hines Equipment Cub Cadet Test Drive Experience and Stoneham Motorsports UTV Show.
New in 2017, the Friends of Shawnee Outdoor Experience will provide unique displays and programs, including a wildlife presentation by Blue Knob Park Naturalist Jesse Kohan Saturday at 11:30 am, and a pair of fly-tying programs on Sunday by the Fort Bedford Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
The Children’s Corner, sponsored by Thrivent Financial, will give young show-goers activities to enjoy, highlighted by the show’s annual Easter Egg Hunt, presented by Real Life Church
(NOTE: the Egg Hunt has been moved to Sunday at 2pm due to the rain and wet fields.)
Those with a green thumb, or just wishing for one can register to participate in a daily Fairy Garden Workshop (11am Sat/2:30pm Sun) presented by Life’s A Garden. Cost for the workshop is $50 per person and includes all supplies. Space is limited for this workshop (8 people per session) and pre-registration is required by calling the Chamber at 623-2233.
Spring Cleaning/Recycling Event: Spring is the perfect time to clean out the basement, garage and more. Thanks to Weaver’s Sanitation/Breezewood Transfer Unit, the HGL Show will offer a FREE electronic and scrap metal/appliance recycling event. Guest may deposit computers, lap tops, tablets, printers and other computer accessories. Another roll-off will accept appliances including refrigerators, air conditioners, stoves, microwaves and more.
The Chamber is very proud to one again partner with the Bedford Speedway to give fans a preview of the 2017 race season. Sunday’s Stars and Their Cars Race Car Show will give the community a chance to meet and greet race car drivers and teams and get a look inside the cockpit of late model and sprint cars. As the show closes, the roar of race engines will fill the speedway, as drivers take to the track for their first practice of the pre-season (3pm.)
Food trucks will offer fair food from snacks and drinks to full meals throughout the weekend.
Show hours are Saturday 9am-5pm with an early-bird hour for Chamber members, hosted by EZtoUsecom, with free coffee and donuts for vendors and employees of Chamber member businesses. Public hours begin at 10am. Doors open Sunday at 11am; the show concludes at 3pm.
