2022 Bike Bedford County Routes, Shirt Deadline Reminder

The Bedford County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to share additional details concerning the 8th annual Bike Bedford County event: Saturday, September 17, 2022 (Rain Date Sun. Sept. 18).  The un-timed recreational bicycle rides, presented in partnership with REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) begin and end at Shawnee State Park and feature beautiful scenery of the Allegheny Mountains and Bedford County Region.

Cost to participate is $50 per rider.  The rides are supported by sag wagons, responding bike techs and food/beverage rest stops.

REMINDER: All riders registered by 12pm, on August 27th will receive a t-shirt.

BIKE BEDFORD COUNTY ROUTES WITH STRAVA LINKS

The Allegheny Ascent ride will take cyclists through the beautiful Allegheny Mountains (our original route!)  The challenging metric century (62 miles) features more than 5,000 feet of climbing through shaded forests and pristine streams.  This ride goes past an elephant preserve and features a descent along the historic Lincoln Highway.   Registration & Check-In begins at 7:30am at Shawnee State Park’s main parking lot (#2 near the boat launch.) ALLEGHENY ASCENT BLUE KNOB ROUTE ON STRAVA

 

The Milligan’s Cove/Covered Bridge Hybrid Ride provides the distance of the Ascent route without the long climbs.  Cyclists will enjoy this metric century (62 mile) intermediate ride with some rolling hills. The ride begins with a jaunt from Shawnee State Park through Milligan’s Cove, with pristine streams and farms, and you’ll probably see some wildlife as well.  After looping back to the park, the ride then follows the Covered Bridge Cycling Tour, featuring five of the county’s historic covered bridges as well as a stop at Long’s Outpost with a great photo op at the Knisely Covered Bridge.  Registration & Check-In begins at 7:00am at Shawnee State Park’s main parking lot (#2 near the boat launch.)  Cyclists must depart by 8am. MILLIGAN’S COVE COVERED BRIDGE HYBRID HALF-CENTURY ROUTE ON STRAVA

The Covered Bridge Cycling Tour is an intermediate half-metric century ride (32 miles) featuring five of the county’s historic covered bridges.  There is an option to add a 4-mile extension and one more covered bridge. Rest stop at Long’s Outpost where you’ll meet friends from Allegany College of Maryland’s Bedford County Campus.  Registration & Check-In begins at 8:00am at Shawnee State Park’s main parking lot (#2 near the boat launch.)  Mandatory pre-ride meting is at 8:30am followed by departure.
